Gospel Tracts

Introductory Note: The following Gospel tracts are designed for 8.5" x 14" paper. You may need to make sure that the right paper size is chosen in your "page setup" after downloading. At the bottom of each tract are spaces for the name of the church and six lines for other contact information. You may personalize the tracts by placing your cursor over the blank spaces and typing into each "forms." After you type in the contact information, you will have a personalized Gospel tract.

Personal Evangelism Helps

• Evangelism Questionnaire I - This questionnaire was first developed in Quebec in French. I have found it helpful in street and door-to-door evangelism. (Also available in PDF format)
• Religious Questionnaire I - This questionnaire asks questions about the person's religious beliefs. It makes a twist on the assurance questions by replacing "God" with "Supreme Being." (Also available in PDF format)
• Neighborhood Questionnaire I (NQ I) - This is a general needs questionnaire for use by a local church. It does not include the assurance questions. It also includes helpful follow-up information for the pastor or church leader. (Also available in PDF format)
• Neighborhood Questionnaire III - This questionnaire is a needs-oriented with the assurance questions. It includes follow-up information as NQ I. (Also available in PDF format)

• On the Translation of in the English New Testament - I have been researching and pondering the translation of the Greek word (found 54 times in the New Testament) as evangelize for over 10 years. Several weeks ago, I came across three old French translations online. One of these was the one used by John Calvin (the Olivétan version). In it, I found the word translated as "evangelize" 24 of the 54 times! Please consider the history of the translation of this important word.

• "Rome, Bible Translation, and the Oklahoma City Green Bible Collection" (MBTS, 2011). This paper was written as part of a seminar for which I was asked to evaluate Rome's history regarding vernacular Bible translation in relationship to the Oklahoma City "'Passages' Exhibit" of the Green Bible Collection.
• Worldwide Bible Translation and Original Language Texts - An Analysis of the Impact of the 1968 and 1987 UBS and SPCU "Guidelines for Interconfessional Cooperation in Translating the Bible" (2008 ETS).
• Calvin's Evangelistic Zeal as Exemplified in Crespin's Martyrology - This paper was developed from my research of the evangelism mentioned in Jean Crespin's 1570 Protestant Martyrology titled, "Histoire des vrais tesmoins de la verite de l'evangile, qui de leur sang l'ont signée, depuis Jean Hus iusques autemps present" [or "History of the True Witnesses to the Truthfulness of the Gospel, Who with Their Blood Signed, from John Hus to the Present Time"] (Geneva, 1570).
• Giving a Defense and Defending the Faith: Examining Historical Approaches to Apologetic Evangelism (ISCA, 2007) - Examines the concept of apologetics and provides recommendations.
• Dying for the Great Commission: A Thirteenth Century Struggle over Definition - Introduces a new French historiography of the Inquisition period, and compares the definitions of conversion with methods of evangelism.
• The Shifting Ecumenical Posture of Roman Catholicism - This paper seeks to show the change in ecumenical tactic in Rome in 1938 and during the ponticate of Pius XII, and discuss its impact upon U.S. Evangelicalism.
• The Uncertain Future of French Evangelicalism: Considering the Impact of Changes in the Translation Policies of the United Bible Society - (ETS, regional 2005). Evaluates the French 1992 Le Semeur Bible in light of the 1968 policies of the joint committee of the UBS and SPCU.

• Quick Analysis of a Bible Translation - This file recommends nine key texts of Scripture for the quick analysis of a Bible translation.

Historical Curiosities

• Lambert d'Avignon’s Letter - This file includes the testimony of Lambert d'Avignon. The first French monk to leave the monastic life and join Protestantism in 1522.
• Franck Puaux on the Indulgences - This file quotes from the Indulgence Book of Roman Taxation of 1471.
• Poster Incident in France - this file translates the actual poster that was placed throughout Paris and on the bedroom door of the King of France on October 18, 1534. It led to the burning of six Lutherans in six Paris squares while Mass was being pronounced by the Archbishop for King Francis I of France.
• Blaise Pascal "On the Conversion of the Sinner" - This file contains a writing of Pascal showing his philosophical approach to conversion.
• The Invitation - The Gospel Invitation of Claude Brousson (martyred 1698)
• Inquisitor Reinerius Sacho on the Waldensians - This text is a translation of the inquisitor Reinerius Sacho's (aka. Sacconus) testimony on the beliefs of the Waldenses, from his Summâ de haereticis (1654), as quoted by Jacques Benigne Bossuet (1627-1704) in his Histoire des variations des églises Protestantes (1688).
• Inquisition and Martyrdom (1002-1572) - This timeline originated from my research of Jean Crespin's 1570 Martyrology (Geneva, 1570). Many historical details have also been added, along with the martyrs listed in Thielemann van Bracht's Martyrs Mirror (a 1660 Anabaptist Martyrology). Personal Information

Dr. Tom Johnston: Born to missionary parents in France, Tom grew up in an environment of evangelism and missions. In his last year at Wheaton College, God confirmed His calling to full-time ministry to Tom. He attended Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, founded the Trinity Evangelistic Teams, and founded Evangelism Unlimited to facilitate a ministry of teaching and leading evangelism. Following seminary Tom went into teaching and pastoral ministry in Quebec, Manitoba, Iowa, and Minnesota, also teaching in the Netherlands and Russia. He completed a Ph.D. in Evangelism at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and during his four years in Kentucky founded and led the Southern Evangelistic Teams and Celebrate Jesus Revival Training for students at Southern. He also began a ministry of revival preaching during his time at Southern. He is currently Assistant Professor of Evangelism at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary since the fall of 2001, as well as Director of the Midwestern Evangelistic Teams. His Ph.D. research was published in 2003 with the title Examining Billy Graham’s Theology of Evangelism (Eugene, OR: Wipf & Stock, 2003). In May 2007, Tom received the Professor of the Year award at Midwestern and his Charts for a Theology of Evangelism were published by Broadman-Holman Academic Publishing.
